Additionally, verify the cooling system design to ensure uniform heat dissipation, which prevents warping in large plastic parts like the tricycle frame. Ensure the mould supports hot runner systems (like Yudo or Mold-Master) to reduce material waste and improve cycle efficiency.

The mould must be designed to produce parts that comply with EN71 (Europe) or ASTM F963 (USA) safety standards. This means the mould design must eliminate sharp edges, pinch points, and small parts that could become choking hazards. Request the supplier to perform a Moldflow analysis during the design phase to identify potential structural weaknesses that could lead to breakage during a child's use.

A top-tier supplier should provide OEM/ODM services and be capable of handling interchangeable inserts, allowing you to produce different tricycle models (e.g., with or without a push handle) using the same base mould. They must support CAD/CAM/CAE software and provide 2D/3D mould drawings for your approval before steel cutting. Integration with your specific injection molding machine tonnage is also vital to ensure the mould fits your existing production line.

Insist on a T1 sample trial where the supplier provides physical samples and a trial video. Check for parting line visibility, flash, and surface finish (e.g., high gloss or texture). The supplier should provide a Dimension Inspection Report to confirm the final plastic part matches your specifications within a tolerance of ±0.05mm to ±0.1mm.

The biggest risk is intellectual property (IP) theft and quality discrepancy. Mitigate this by signing a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) and using Made-in-China.com's Secured Trading services. Always use third-party inspections (like SGS or Intertek) to verify the steel grade and mould operation before the final balance payment is made.

Negotiate based on Mould Life Guarantee rather than just the initial price. A cheaper mould that fails after 50,000 cycles is more expensive than a premium one. Request free spare parts (e.g., ejector pins, springs, nozzles) to be included in the package. For payment, aim for a 40% deposit, 30% after T1 sample approval, and 30% before shipment to maintain leverage throughout the fabrication process.

Moulds are heavy and prone to rust during sea transit. Ensure the supplier applies anti-rust oil to all surfaces and wraps the mould in vacuum-sealed plastic. The mould must be packed in a fumigated wooden box reinforced with iron straps. For international trade, FOB (Free On Board) is recommended so you have control over the sea freight and insurance through your own forwarder.
