For hulled varieties, inquire if they use dry hulling or wet hulling; dry hulling is often preferred for preserving the seed's nutritional integrity and reducing water waste.

The most significant risks include aflatoxin contamination due to poor drying and adulteration where high-quality seeds are mixed with inferior grades. To mitigate this, always mandate SGS or Intertek pre-shipment inspections and use Trade Assurance or Letters of Credit (L/C) to ensure payment is only released upon verification of quality documents.

Sesame prices fluctuate based on harvest cycles in major hubs like Ethiopia, Sudan, and India. Negotiate Volume-Based Pricing and consider long-term forward contracts to lock in prices during harvest peaks. Always request FOB (Free On Board) pricing to maintain control over freight costs, as shipping agricultural bulk can be subject to seasonal surcharges.

Sesame seeds are highly sensitive to moisture and heat. Ensure the supplier uses food-grade PP bags (25kg or 50kg) and utilizes desiccants (silica gel) inside the containers.
