Focus on the sanding process; high-quality toys should have a 'silk-touch' finish with no visible burrs or sharp edges. Check the structural integrity of joints—non-toxic wood glue combined with dowel reinforcement is superior to metal screws. For magnetic toys, ensure magnets are double-encapsulated to prevent accidental ingestion.

The biggest risk is moisture and mold during sea freight. Ensure the supplier uses silica gel desiccant packets in every master carton and maintains a wood moisture content of 8%-12% before packing. Additionally, verify if the wood species requires a Phytosanitary Certificate or fumigation to pass customs in your country.

When requesting custom designs, sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) before sharing blueprints. Negotiate a 'Sample Rebate' policy, where the initial prototyping fee (usually $100-$300) is deducted from the first mass production order. For long-term security, source through reputable platforms like Made-in-China.com to utilize their verified supplier audits.

Use Trade Assurance or Escrow-based payment terms to ensure funds are only released upon proof of shipment. For shipping, LCL (Less than Container Load) is cost-effective for toys, but ensure the supplier uses heavy-duty 5-ply corrugated boxes to prevent crushing.
