The choice depends on the environment. AISI 304 is suitable for general indoor use and standard water applications. However, for corrosive environments, marine settings, or chemical processing, you must specify AISI 316 or 316L, as these grades contain molybdenum which provides superior resistance to pitting and chloride corrosion.

You must evaluate the braiding density and layers. A single or double layer of stainless steel wire braid significantly increases the Working Pressure (WP) and Burst Pressure. Ensure the supplier provides a hydrostatic pressure test report and verify that the hose meets ISO 10380 standards for cyclic fatigue life.

Check the inner core material. While the outer is stainless steel, the inner tube can be PTFE (for high chemicals/temp), EPDM (for hot water), or Corrugated Stainless Steel (for extreme heat and gas). Ensure the temperature rating matches your needs, typically ranging from -200°C to +600°C for all-metal hoses.

For potable water, look for WRAS, NSF, or ACS certifications. For gas applications, CE marking or CSA approval is mandatory. Always request Material Mill Test Certificates (EN 10204 3.1) to verify the chemical composition of the steel.

This is a common risk where 201 grade is passed off as 304. Use Third-Party Inspection (TPI) services like SGS or Intertek to perform a PMI (Positive Material Identification) test before the balance payment is made. Focus on Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) rather than just unit price. Negotiate based on weight and braiding coverage percentage; lower prices often mean thinner walls or sparse braiding. Ask for volume-based rebates if your annual forecast exceeds 5,000 units.

Stainless hoses are susceptible to kinking and surface abrasion during transit. Insist on individual polybagging and the use of reinforced wooden crates (IPPC heat-treated) rather than standard cartons for bulk sea freight to prevent compression damage.

Verify the HS Code (typically 8307.10) to check for anti-dumping duties in your country. Ensure the Certificate of Origin (CO) is provided to benefit from preferential tariffs under Free Trade Agreements (FTA) if applicable.
