Ensure the paper is acid-free to prevent the printed design from discoloring over time.

To guarantee a shelf life of 12 to 24 months, the cards must be sealed in high-barrier OPP or PET plastic packaging. For the scent itself, request encapsulated fragrance technology or a high concentration of essential oils (15-25%). A quality fragrance card should maintain a noticeable scent for at least 30 to 45 days once opened in a standard vehicle or room environment.

For the EU market, products must comply with REACH regulations and the IFRA (International Fragrance Association) standards to ensure the chemicals used are safe for inhalation. For the US, California Proposition 65 compliance is essential if the product contains specific phthalates. Always request an MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) from the supplier to verify the chemical composition and safety for transport.

For complex logos and vibrant colors, CMYK offset printing is the industry standard. If your brand requires a premium feel, consider silk-screen printing for textured effects or hot foil stamping. Ensure the supplier uses soy-based inks or UV-resistant inks so that the fragrance oils do not cause the ink to bleed or dissolve the graphics.

Fragrance cards are often classified as 'Sensitive Goods' due to the liquid fragrance content. You must ensure the supplier provides a Non-Hazardous Goods Declaration and an MSDS. For large volumes, sea freight is most economical, but ensure the container is kept away from heat sources. For air express, use carriers experienced in handling liquid-impregnated solids to avoid customs delays.

Scent migration occurs when different fragrances in the same shipment blend together. To prevent this, require the supplier to use individual airtight heat-sealed bags for each unit and double-wall corrugated master cartons with internal liners. Avoid mixing different scents in the same inner box; use separate inner boxes for each SKU to maintain scent purity.

Look for suppliers with the 'Audited Supplier' badge, which indicates their facilities have been verified by third-party agencies like SGS or Bureau Veritas. Check their Gold Member status and transaction history. It is highly recommended to request a pre-shipment inspection to verify that the scent matches your approved sample, as 'scent strength' is subjective and hard to dispute after delivery.

Since the unit cost is low, focus your negotiation on tooling/die-cut fees and MOQ flexibility. Many suppliers will waive the die-cut fee for orders over 5,000 units. Additionally, negotiate for customized header cards or display PDQ boxes to be included in the unit price, which adds significant retail value without a high increase in production cost.
