Prioritize tempered glass for the game board to ensure impact resistance and safety; if the glass breaks, it should shatter into small, blunt pieces. The thickness of the board should ideally be between 3mm to 5mm to balance durability with shipping weight. For the playing pieces (marbles or glass pawns), ensure they are solid glass with a smooth, polished finish to prevent scratching the board surface.

Request suppliers to use silk-screen printing or UV printing with a protective back-coating. Since the design is often printed on the underside of the glass, verify that the ink is scratch-resistant and eco-friendly. Ask for a cross-hatch adhesion test report to ensure the graphics won't peel or fade over time due to friction or environmental moisture.

As a toy or leisure product, it must meet EN71 (Europe) or ASTM F963 (USA) standards, specifically focusing on small parts warnings (due to marbles/dice) and heavy metal content in glass dyes. Ensure the product carries a CE mark for European markets and that the glass edges are beveled or rounded to prevent injury, meeting mechanical and physical property safety requirements.

Standard packaging is insufficient for glass. Demand Drop Test Certified (ISTA 1A or 3A) packaging. This typically includes custom-fit EPE foam or high-density EPS surrounding the board, with individual slots for glass pieces. The outer carton should be 5-layer corrugated fiberboard with 'Fragile' and 'Handle with Care' markings in multiple languages.

Negotiate a breakage allowance in your contract; a standard industry rate is 2-3%. For rates exceeding this, ensure the supplier agrees to free replacements or credit in the next order. Always use Third-Party Inspection (DPI/FRI) before shipment to verify that the packaging matches the approved sample and that no units are cracked before leaving the factory.

Due to the high density and weight of glass, Sea Freight (LCL or FCL) is the most economical choice. For smaller boutique batches, Sea-to-Door (DDP) services can simplify customs. Avoid air freight unless it is a high-margin luxury set, as the volumetric weight and fragility surcharges will significantly erode your profit margins.

Look for suppliers on Made-in-China.com that hold Audited Supplier status. Check if they have ISO 9001 certification and a history of exporting to your target region. Request a factory video audit to see their glass tempering and printing facilities, which confirms they are a direct manufacturer rather than a middleman.

Focus on MOQ flexibility and customization costs. Many suppliers offer lower prices if you use their standard mold sizes (e.g., 25x25cm or 35x35cm). Negotiate for OEM branding on the underside of the glass or the packaging, and aim for a 30% deposit / 70% balance payment against the Bill of Lading (B/L) to secure your transaction.
