When evaluating lithium batteries, focus on Energy Density and Cycle Life. A high-quality battery should maintain at least 80% capacity after 500 charge cycles. Ensure the Rated Capacity (mAh) matches the actual performance through discharge testing. Additionally, verify the use of High-Quality Protection Circuit Boards (PCB) to prevent overcharging, over-discharging, and short-circuiting.

Compliance is non-negotiable for safety. Batteries must have UN38.3 certification for air transport safety. For the US market, UL1642 or UL2054 is preferred; for the EU, CE marking and RoHS compliance are required. Additionally, IEC 62133 is the global standard for portable sealed secondary cells. Always request MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets) from the supplier.

Request a Cell Grading Report. Grade A cells are brand new and meet full specifications with low internal resistance. Beware of prices significantly below market average, as they often indicate Grade B or 'pulled' (used) cells. Conduct an Internal Resistance Test; lower resistance typically indicates a healthier, higher-quality cell.

Lithium batteries are sensitive to temperature. They should be stored in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated warehouse at a temperature of 15°C to 25°C. For long-term storage, batteries should be kept at a 40% to 60% State of Charge (SoC) to prevent deep discharge, which can permanently damage the lithium chemistry.

Lithium batteries are classified as Class 9 Dangerous Goods. The primary risk is thermal runaway leading to fire. You must ensure the supplier uses UN-approved packaging with proper labeling. Failure to declare batteries correctly can lead to heavy fines, shipment seizure, or carrier blacklisting.

Start by requesting a factory audit or a video inspection of their production line. Negotiate a Quality Assurance Agreement that specifies the acceptable Defect Rate (usually <0.3%). Use Escrow-based payment terms where a portion of the payment is released only after a Pre-shipment Inspection (PSI) by a third party like SGS or Intertek.

For large volumes, Sea Freight (DG Container) is the most economical, though it has longer lead times. For smaller, urgent batches, Specialized DG Air Freight is necessary. Always clarify the Incoterms; FOB (Free On Board) is recommended so you can maintain control over the specialized logistics provider who understands battery regulations.

Look for Audited Suppliers on the platform. Check their Business License, the length of time they have been in operation, and their Export Experience to your specific region. A legitimate manufacturer will be able to provide ISO 9001 certification and specific Product Test Reports that match the factory name.
