You must specify the electroplating process and request a Salt Spray Test report (typically 24 to 48 hours). High-quality labels should feature an anti-oxidation rack plating rather than barrel plating to ensure a thicker, more durable protective layer. Additionally, ask for a colorfastness guarantee to prevent staining on denim fabrics.

Common methods include rivets, shanks (sew-on loops), and prongs. For heavy denim, rivet-style attachments are the most secure as they penetrate the fabric and lock in place. If using sew-on labels, ensure the holes are smooth and deburred to prevent the thread from being cut by sharp metal edges during wear.

Branding is typically achieved through embossing (raised), debossing (engraved), or laser etching. For a premium look, soft enamel filling can be added to debossed logos. Ensure the supplier provides 3D mockups or CAD drawings before mold making to verify logo proportions and depth.

Implement a Pre-shipment Inspection (PSI) focusing on the AQL 2.5 standard. Check for surface scratches, plating consistency, and weight. Since these are small items, weight-based counting is common; however, you should verify the net weight per 1,000 pieces to ensure quantity accuracy.

Focus on mold fee amortization. For large orders (e.g., >10,000 units), negotiate to have the mold cost refunded or deducted from the final balance. Always request a pre-production sample and keep a sealed sample as a 'Golden Sample' for quality comparison upon arrival.

Metal labels are heavy and dense, making sea freight or rail freight more economical for large volumes. Ensure the supplier uses moisture-proof packaging (silica gel packets) and double-walled corrugated boxes to prevent the weight from bursting the cartons during transit.

Verify that the products meet the CPSIA (Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act) requirements if exporting to the US, particularly regarding lead content in children's apparel. Request a Certificate of Compliance (CoC) from the manufacturer to avoid customs seizures or product recalls.
