The locking mechanism should be a high-security 3-point lock or a digital keypad lock. Additionally, verify that the box includes internal floor or wall mounting holes with expansion bolts to prevent the entire unit from being stolen.

Evaluate the maximum parcel dimensions the box can accept; standard commercial units should accommodate packages up to 400 x 300 x 200mm. For multi-family or office use, select large-capacity models (80L-120L). Always request the internal clearance dimensions rather than just external measurements to ensure compatibility with common courier box sizes.

Ensure the product has an IPX4 or higher waterproof rating to protect contents from rain. Check for ISO 9001 certification for manufacturing quality and REACH/RoHS compliance for coating safety. If the box includes electronic locks, it must carry CE or FCC certification depending on the target market.

The biggest risks are shipping damage (denting) and high freight costs due to the product's bulkiness. To mitigate this, insist on ISTA 3A standard packaging (drop-tested) and consider KD (Knock-Down) designs that can be assembled on-site to significantly reduce shipping volume and costs.

Focus on Audited Suppliers who have undergone on-site inspections. Review their Business Audit Reports to check their production capacity and specialized machinery, such as CNC laser cutting and robotic welding, which ensure precision and consistent quality across large batches.

Negotiate based on raw material price indexing (steel market rates) and volume-based discounts. Ask for customized branding (logo silk-screening or laser engraving) to be included in the unit price for orders exceeding 200 units, and request a 2-5% spare parts allowance for locks and hinges.

Due to the weight and volume, Sea Freight (FCL or LCL) is the most economical method. Ensure the supplier uses palletized loading to prevent forklift damage during transit. For high-value smart parcel boxes, clarify the Incoterms (preferably FOB or CIF) to define exactly where the risk transfers.
