Always request a fabric composition report to verify the ratio of cotton, polyester, or spandex.

To ensure market entry and consumer safety, verify that the factory holds ISO 9001 for quality management and BSCI or Sedex for social compliance. For the products themselves, OEKO-TEX Standard 100 is essential to prove the absence of harmful substances, and CE/ANSI certifications are mandatory if the vests are sold as Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Request a pre-production sample (PPS) for approval. Conduct a cross-hatch adhesion test on the print to ensure it doesn't crack or peel. For stitching, check for 6-8 stitches per inch and ensure reinforced bartacking is used on high-stress areas like pocket corners and shoulder seams. Utilizing a third-party inspection service like SGS or Intertek before final payment is highly recommended.

The primary risks include color variance (Dyelot differences) between the sample and bulk production, and sizing discrepancies between Asian and Western charts. To mitigate this, provide a detailed size spec sheet in centimeters and specify Pantone Color Codes for both the fabric and the printed logo.

Focus on Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) rather than just the unit price. Negotiate for tiered pricing based on volume (e.g., 500, 1000, 5000 units). Ask for free plate-making or mold fees for repeat orders and try to secure a 30% deposit / 70% balance payment terms against the Bill of Lading (B/L) to protect your cash flow.

Always conduct transactions through secure payment channels provided by reputable platforms like Made-in-China.com, which offer trade escrow services. Avoid direct wire transfers to private bank accounts. Ensure all technical requirements, lead times, and penalty clauses for delays are clearly stated in a signed Proforma Invoice (PI) or Sales Contract.
