Focus on tensile strength (typically ≥550 MPa for 55Q) and surface hardness. Additionally, check for straightness tolerances; a deviation of more than 1mm per meter can lead to derailment risks. Ask the supplier about their ultrasonic flaw detection processes to ensure there are no internal cracks or inclusions that could cause sudden rail breakage under load.

Steel rails are prone to oxidation in salty maritime environments. You must require the supplier to apply a professional anti-rust coating or oil before shipment. Furthermore, specify that the rails should be bundled securely with steel wire and, if possible, stored under-deck rather than on-deck to minimize exposure to seawater.

Steel prices fluctuate daily based on raw material costs. To secure the best deal, monitor the Global Steel Price Index and negotiate based on tonnage rather than meterage. For orders exceeding 100 tons, aim for a 5-8% volume discount. It is also wise to lock in a fixed price for a specific validity period (e.g., 7 days) to avoid price hikes during the contract signing phase.

Look for companies with a high 'Trust Score' and those who have been members for over 5 years. Check their 'Transaction History' to see if they have experience exporting to your specific region, as they will be more familiar with local customs clearance and anti-dumping duties.
