Professional-grade silk satin must exhibit a high-luster sheen on the face and a duller matte finish on the back. Key performance indicators include colorfastness to washing and light (Grade 4 or higher), minimal shrinkage (less than 3-5%), and a smooth, friction-reducing surface that is hypoallergenic and breathable.

Request a Burn Test report or a third-party fiber composition analysis. Pure silk will smell like burning hair and leave a brittle black ash that crushes easily, whereas polyester will smell like burning plastic, produce black smoke, and leave a hard, melted bead.

To mitigate these, require sealed pre-production samples for color matching and ensure the supplier uses vacuum-sealed plastic inner packaging with desiccant packs inside the export cartons.

Silk is a commodity-linked product; prices fluctuate based on raw silk market rates. Negotiate for tiered pricing based on volume and ask for a lower MOQ for stocked greige fabric if you are doing custom dyeing. For large orders, aim for a 10-15% discount compared to sample yardage prices.
