A thicker wire (e.g., 4mm to 8mm) is required for security fencing or heavy-duty industrial shelving, while thinner wires suffice for decorative use. The Welding Strength is paramount; ensure the supplier uses Automatic Resistance Welding to guarantee that every intersection can withstand a specific shear force, preventing the panel from falling apart under load. Always request a Tolerance Specification, typically within ±0.05mm for wire diameter and ±2mm for panel dimensions.

For construction and industrial applications, ensure the products meet ASTM A1064 (for carbon steel wire) or EN 10223 (for steel wire and wire products for fencing). If the panels are used in reinforced concrete, compliance with BS 4483 is often required. Always ask for a Mill Test Certificate (MTC) and ISO 9001 certification to verify the chemical composition and mechanical properties of the steel used.

Calculate the Price per Kilogram vs. Price per Sheet. Since steel is a commodity, pricing fluctuates with the global market. To optimize costs, consider Standard Sizes (e.g., 4'x8' or 2m x 4m) which are cheaper to produce than custom dimensions. For large-scale projects, a Volume Discount of 10-20% is typical for orders exceeding one full 20ft container (approx. 18-22 tons). Also, factor in the Loading Density; flat panels should be palletized efficiently to minimize shipping 'dead space'.

The biggest risks are Surface Rusting during sea transit and Dimensional Inconsistency. To mitigate rust, insist on Waterproof Packaging (VCI paper or plastic film wrapping) and the use of Desiccants inside the container. To ensure quality, use Third-Party Inspection services (like SGS or Intertek) to perform a 'Pre-Shipment Inspection' (PSI) focusing on wire gauge accuracy and zinc coating thickness.

Focus on Technical Transparency. Ask for a detailed Technical Data Sheet (TDS) before discussing price. Negotiate based on Zinc Coating Mass (g/m²)—reputable suppliers will be specific (e.g., 240g/m² for heavy galvanized), while low-quality ones will be vague. For payment, use Trade Assurance or Letter of Credit (L/C) to secure your funds until the Bill of Lading is issued.

Steel mesh is heavy and can be difficult to unload. Ensure your warehouse has a Forklift or Crane capable of handling 2-ton bundles. When shipping to countries with strict import duties (like Anti-Dumping Duties on certain steel products), verify the HS Code (typically 7314.20 or 7314.31) with a local customs broker to avoid unexpected taxes.
