Even though these are clearance goods, they must meet destination laws. Ensure garments comply with REACH (EU) or CPSIA (US) regarding lead content and phthalates, especially for children's wear. It is critical to check for mandatory care labels and fiber content tags in the language of the destination country; otherwise, the shipment may be seized by customs.

Stocklots often have 'broken sizes' (incomplete size curves). You must request a detailed Packing List (P/L) that specifies the quantity per size (S, M, L, XL). Professional buyers prioritize 'Full Ratio' stocklots to ensure retail viability. If the ratio is skewed, negotiate a lower unit price to offset the risk of unsellable sizes.

Focus on zipper functionality (YKK or equivalent), seam strength, and button security. For functional wear like jackets, verify the water-repellency (DWR) coating hasn't degraded during storage. Always ask for the storage duration; garments stored in humid warehouses for over 2 years may suffer from 'storage rot' or elastic degradation.

This is the highest risk in stocklot sourcing. Always hire a third-party inspection service (like V-Trust or QIMA) to perform a Loading Supervision. Ensure the inspector stays until the container is sealed. For secure sourcing, use platforms like Made-in-China.com and look for Audited Suppliers with verified production or warehouse capabilities.

Stocklot prices are highly volatile. Use a 'Take-All' strategy to negotiate the lowest price, as suppliers are often desperate to clear warehouse space. If you cannot take the whole lot, expect a 20-40% price premium. Always negotiate based on 'As-Is' terms but insist on a guaranteed defect rate of less than 3-5%.

If the stocklot features a known brand name, you must obtain a Letter of Authorization (LOA) or a Sanitized Invoice proving the brand owner has released the goods for resale. To avoid legal issues, many buyers opt for 'De-branding' (removing or cutting main labels) before export to prevent trademark infringement at customs.

Avoid 100% upfront payments. The industry standard is a 30% deposit and 70% against the Bill of Lading (B/L) after inspection. For shipping, use FOB (Free On Board) to maintain control over the freight forwarder and costs.
