You must specify whether you require 'filled' travertine (where holes are filled with color-matched resin for a smooth finish) or 'unfilled' travertine for a more rustic, natural aesthetic. A quality travertine bathtub should be carved from a single monolithic block rather than joined pieces to prevent leakage and structural failure. Ensure the wall thickness is at least 3cm to 5cm to withstand water pressure and provide thermal insulation. Additionally, verify that the drain hole dimensions comply with international standards (e.g., 1.5 or 2 inches) to ensure compatibility with standard plumbing fixtures.

Travertine bathtubs are exceptionally heavy, often weighing between 500kg and 1,500kg. You must request a detailed technical drawing including the dry weight and filled weight. Advise your clients on floor load-bearing capacity and ensure the supplier provides reinforced wooden crate packaging with integrated pallet bases for forklift handling.

Suppliers should provide a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) and confirm the stone is treated with non-toxic, food-grade sealants. Since travertine is sensitive to acids, ensure the supplier provides care and maintenance manuals for end-users. For hospitality projects, check for slip-resistance ratings (R-ratings) on the interior floor of the tub.

Stone products are brittle. Require the supplier to use IPPC-certified fumigated solid wood crates with internal high-density foam padding and shock-absorption layers. Focus on yield rates and stone grade rather than just the lowest price. Ask for photos of the raw block before carving begins. Natural stone always has chromatic variation. To avoid disputes, include a clause in your contract stating that the product must fall within a pre-approved range of samples. Due to the extreme weight, Sea Freight (FCL or LCL) is the only economically feasible method. Ensure your Incoterms (e.g., FOB or CIF) are clearly defined.
