You must verify the hydrolytic resistance of the glass to prevent 'glass flakes' or delamination. For light-sensitive products, ensure the supplier provides Amber Type I glass that meets USP <671> spectral transmission limits. Always request a Certificate of Analysis (CoA) that confirms the glass composition and thermal shock resistance.

Prioritize suppliers using tubular glass conversion technology for better dimensional precision compared to molded glass. Look for 100% camera-based inspection systems that detect cosmetic defects, cracks, and dimensional deviations. Additionally, ensure the supplier operates under ISO 15378 (Primary packaging materials for medicinal products) standards.

Many modern buyers prefer RTU (Ready-to-Use) vials which are pre-washed, depyrogenated, and sterilized (usually via Ethylene Oxide or Gamma radiation). This reduces the need for in-house cleanroom processing. Ensure the packaging for RTU vials includes nest and tub configurations to prevent glass-to-glass contact and scratches.

Specify double-wall corrugated export cartons and the use of plastic pallets rather than wooden ones to meet international phytosanitary requirements. Ensure the use of shrink-wrapping and corner protectors. For high-value shipments, it is advisable to include impact sensors (e.g., ShockWatch) to monitor handling during the logistics chain.

Focus on batch consistency and lead times. Since Type I glass tubing is often sourced from a few global leaders (like Schott or Corning), ask the manufacturer about their raw material supply stability. Negotiate for retained samples from each production lot to be kept by the supplier for at least two years for quality traceability.

Look for Audited Suppliers who have undergone on-site inspections by third-party agencies like SGS or Intertek. Review their Business Audit Reports specifically for their production capacity and quality control laboratory equipment. Use the STS (Secured Trading Service) to ensure payment security until the goods are verified.

Ensure the supplier provides a Drug Master File (DMF) number registered with the FDA (for US) or equivalent regulatory bodies. Necessary documents include the Packing List, Commercial Invoice, CoA, and a Declaration of Conformity. Be aware of Anti-Dumping Duties (ADD) that may apply to certain glassware categories depending on your country's trade policy with China.
