For premium displays, prioritize MDF with wood veneer for a smooth finish or solid wood (like Oak or Pine) for a luxury feel. Ensure the wood is kiln-dried to prevent warping in humid retail environments. The surface must be treated with eco-friendly, moisture-resistant coatings to protect against cosmetic spills and leaks.

Focus on load-bearing capacity, especially for heavy glass perfume bottles; shelves should support at least 10-15kg without sagging. Request seamless edge banding to prevent peeling and ensure all LED lighting integrations are recessed with heat-dissipation channels to avoid damaging heat-sensitive cosmetic formulas.

For the US market, ensure compliance with CARB Phase 2 or EPA TSCA Title VI regarding formaldehyde emissions from composite wood. For the EU, E1 or E0 grade boards are required. If the display includes lighting, electrical components must have UL, CE, or RoHS certifications to pass customs and meet safety regulations.

Verify the modularity of the design; displays should be easy to assemble (KD - Knock Down design) to save on shipping costs. Check for adjustable shelving heights to accommodate different product sizes and ensure the branding/logo application (laser engraving or silk screening) is durable enough to withstand frequent cleaning.

Wooden items are prone to impact and moisture. Insist on 5-layer corrugated export cartons with EPE foam corner protectors and a vacuum-sealed plastic inner bag to prevent mold during sea freight. Request a drop test report (ISTA 1A or 2A) from the supplier before balance payment.

Many countries require a Fumigation Certificate for solid wood packaging or products to prevent pest spread. Ensure your supplier provides a Phytosanitary Certificate if required by your local customs. Using MDF or Plywood often bypasses these strict fumigation requirements as they are heat-treated during manufacturing.

Start by requesting a sample (usually 1.5x to 2x unit price) to verify craftsmanship. Negotiate based on Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), asking for a breakdown of material costs vs. finishing costs. For bulk orders (e.g., >200 units), aim for a 15-20% discount and negotiate 30% deposit / 70% balance against BL copy terms to ensure leverage.

Due to the high volume-to-weight ratio, LCL (Less than Container Load) or FCL (Full Container Load) sea freight is the only economical option. Use DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) terms if you want the supplier to handle all import duties and 'last-mile' delivery to your warehouse, avoiding hidden port fees.
