Should the elevator exceed a descent speed of 1.15 times the rated speed, the speed governor and tension device engage the safety gear's lifting rod to apply a brake on the guide rail. If the ascent speed surpasses 1.15 times the rated speed, the control cabinet signals the traction machine to initiate a braking mechanism.
