Q:What are the similarities between UHMW and HDPE?

UHMWpe and HDPE are made of ethylene monomers. Both are thermoplastic polymers. Both have an indistinguishable appearance.

Q:What is the difference between UHMW and HDPE?

UHMW is ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene with very long polymer chains and high molecular weights, while HDPE is high density polyethylene with short polymer chains and low molecular weights. UHMW is produced with metallocene catalyst and has zero water absorption, whereas HDPE is produced with Ziegler-Natta catalyst and may absorb water slightly.
