It cures at room temperature by reacting with atmospheric moisture-no mixing, no primer in most cases, and no isocyanates. It is for sealing of vehicle bodywork, windshield replacement, welded seam and structrual bonding between different substrates.

What substrates can 1K MS sealant bond to?

Most common construction and industrial substrates: concrete, glass, ceramics, wood, PVC, aluminum, steel, and many plastics. For some difficult substrates (e.g., certain PP/PE), a primer or surface treatment may be required.

In most cases no. However, for porous, oily, or low-surface-energy substrates, a primer is recommended to ensure consistent adhesion. Always perform an adhesion test on the actual substrate.

What is the optimal application temperature? How should I prepare the surface?

Substrate and ambient temperature should be between 5 and 40. Below 5, curing slows dramatically; above 40, skin formation may be too fast, affecting tooling. The surface must be clean, dry, and free of dust, oil, grease, and loose particles. Use a suitable cleaner and allow it to evaporate completely before application.

Typically 10-30 minutes at 23 degree/50% RH, depending on temperature, humidity, and bead thickness. Higher humidity and temperature accelerate skin formation. Curing proceeds from the surface inward at roughly 2-4 mm per 24 hours at 23 degree/50% RH. Full cure depends on bead thickness and environmental conditions.

Can it be applied underwater or in wet conditions?How thick can a single bead be?

Standard 1K MS sealants are not designed for underwater application. For damp or intermittently wet surfaces, specialized formulations may be available-consult the TDS.Recommended bead thickness is generally 5-20 mm. Thicker beads cure more slowly and may risk internal voids; for deep joints, use a backer rod and apply in layers.

Can I paint over MS sealant? Does MS sealant bubble during curing?

Yes. MS sealants are paintable with most water-based and solvent-based paints. However, alkyd-based paints may have longer drying times over MS. Always test compatibility first. Unlike some PU sealants, MS polymers do not release carbon dioxide during curing, so they do not bubble or foam. This ensures a smooth, void-free seal.
