A non-pre-stretch (brake-type) carriage pulls film straight off the roll and relies on load resistance to stretch it, so the film stretches unevenly and often tears. A powered pre-stretch carriage uses two motorized rollers to stretch the film a set ratio (up to 300%) before it reaches the load, which delivers consistent holding force, uses far less film, and produces a tighter, cleaner wrap.

At 250to300% pre-stretch, industrial users typically report 30-50% lower film consumption compared with manual wrapping or non-pre-stretch machines. How many pallets can it wrap per hour? Standard configuration wraps 20to40 loads per hour depending on load height, wrapping program and operator speed. For higher throughput, an inline model with conveyor interface can be supplied.

This is the main reason customers choose a turntable wrapper for carton loads. Soft start / soft stop ramps the turntable up and down gradually, and the optional top platen applies downward pressure on the stack. Many buyers order the top pressure device specifically for light carton loads.
