It consists of an EPDM (ethylene-propylene-diene monomer) rubber core with an outer PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) covering or coating layer. The EPDM provides high elasticity and compression recovery, while the PTFE layer offers extremely low friction, non-stick properties, and superior chemical resistance, bonded together via vulcanization or adhesive lamination.

The EPDM core deforms uniformly under bolt preload to fill minor flange irregularities, ensuring initial sealing. The PTFE outer layer contacts the fluid, leveraging its chemical inertness and anti-adhesion to prevent media penetration and sticking, also making disassembly easier.

The PTFE outer layer resists almost all strong acids, strong alkalis, and organic solvents. The EPDM core resists hot water, steam, mild acids/bases, and many polar solvents. However, it is not recommended for petroleum oils, aromatic hydrocarbons, or strong oxidizing acids that attack EPDM.

It depends on your specific requirements. Our standard product uses industrial-grade EPDM and PTFE and does not automatically meet FDA standards. For food or pharmaceutical grades, we offer specialized formulations that comply with FDA 21 CFR 177.2600 (EPDM) and 177.1550 (PTFE) - please specify your requirement when ordering.
