It uses depth filtration where raw water passes through a graded quartz sand bed. Suspended materials attach to the media, and clean water exits through nozzles. When pressure differential increases, automatic backwashing cleans the bed.

A pressure differential switch senses when the preset value is reached and signals the controller to start self-cleaning. Pressurized water flows in reverse (backwash) to suspend the filter bed and wash out dirt particles through the back-flush valve.
