Raw water enters the filter inlet and percolates through a thick layer of graded particles. Suspended materials attach to the media, and clean water flows out via the outlet valve.

When the pressure differential reaches a preset value, a switch signals the controller to start backwashing. Pressurized water flows in reverse to suspend the filter bed and wash out dirt.
