MF series has conventional particle size (D50 3~9um) with Mg(OH)2 more than 91, suitable for general cable compounds and thermoplastic/thermosetting plastics; MC series is nano grade (D50 1~1.5um) with Mg(OH)2 more than 99, higher purity for high-performance applications such as automotive electronic wires and premium low-smoke halogen free cable compounds.
Q:How to select the appropriate magnesium hydroxide grade for specific applications?
A:
Select based on substrate and performance requirements: MF-5S or MF-6 for PVC cable compounds; MF-3 or MF-3S for low-smoke halogen-free cable compounds; MF-3H for enhanced mechanical properties; MF-3Y for general flame retardancy; MC-1 or MC-1S for premium automotive electronic wires or elastomers. Different surface treatments (silane/stearic acid/functional polymer) can be chosen to improve dispersibility or mechanical properties.
Q:What is the flame retardant mechanism of magnesium hydroxide?
A:
Magnesium hydroxide decomposes endothermically upon heating, absorbing heat and releasing water vapor to dilute combustible gases; the resulting MgO layer isolates oxygen. It is halogen-free with low smoke density.
