Aluminum reflects roughly 90% of the initial laser energy, conducts heat away extremely fast once coupling is achieved, and is prone to absorbing hydrogen that causes porosity. This machine addresses these challenges with fine-focus optics for high energy density, the right power range (1500W-2000W) for thin to medium sections, and pulse shaping to control the solidification profile.

The machine handles aluminum from 0.5mm to 3mm. The 1500W configuration is optimized for thinner sections up to approximately 1.5mm, while the 2000W configuration provides the extra energy needed for sections from 1.5mm to 3mm. This covers the typical range for precision aluminum housings, enclosures, and brackets.

Porosity in aluminum is often caused by hydrogen gas trapped in the solidifying weld pool. The controlled pulse shaping, particularly the taper at the end of the pulse, allows the pool to solidify at a controlled rate, giving gas bubbles time to escape. The enclosed cabinet also provides consistent shielding gas coverage to minimize oxide formation and hydrogen pickup.

Yes. With proper parameter settings, the machine produces clean, smooth aluminum weld beads with minimal discoloration and a narrow heat-affected zone. This is important for consumer electronics enclosures and instrument housings where the weld may be visible on the finished product.

Yes. The machine stores separate weld programs for different aluminum grades, allowing operators to switch between 6061 and 5052 parts by selecting the corresponding program. Each program is optimized for the specific thermal and metallurgical characteristics of that alloy.
