Steel tooth (milled tooth) bits adopt carbon steel teeth, featuring high penetration and fast ROP. They are suitable for soft formations with compressive strength below 40MPa, such as mudstone, rock salt, soft shale and weathered strata.
Q:How to choose the correct IADC code for different formations?

Steel tooth bits: IADC 117/127/217 for soft strata.
TCI insert bits: IADC 517/537 for medium formations; IADC 617/637 for hard rock formations.
