Platform load sensing is a safety system that continuously monitors the weight in the platform. If the load exceeds the rated capacity, it triggers an alarm and disables certain functions to prevent overloading. This is now required under updated ANSI standards for all Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs).

Common causes include: overloaded platform (exceeding SWL), low hydraulic oil level, clogged suction filter, low voltage to the motor, or a stuck down valve. Always check the load weight first, then inspect fluid levels and electrical connections.

Follow the manufacturer's schedule: daily visual inspection and fluid checks; weekly detailed inspection and lubrication; monthly comprehensive check by a qualified technician; annually complete system certification. Hydraulic oil typically needs replacement every 1,000-2,000 hours.
