Flat Head Open End Rivet Nut Zinc Plated Carbon Steel GB/T 17880.1

A flat head rivet nut (also called a blind rivet nut or threaded insert nut) is a threaded insert that is set into thin sheet from one side only. Four steps: 1) Drill the hole d0 at nominal +0.15 mm and deburr it. 2) Push the nut into the hole, flange up - the knurled body needs a round hole. 3) Pull the mandrel with a setting tool; the thin wall collapses first and folds into a counter-form behind the panel, locking the nut in place. 4) Fasten from the open side - any bolt length works. The grip range across the range is 0.5-6.5 mm, and it depends on the size chosen. Measure the total panel thickness - or the total thickness of a multi-layer stack - and keep it inside the grip range of that size. Too thin gives an under-set joint; too thick leaves the riveting incomplete. For thick stacks choose a longer size such as M6x19.5, M8x21 or M12x25, then re-check the grip range.

Yes - use the dedicated setting tool with a matching mandrel and nose piece, and thread the mandrel in at least one full thread. The knurled body requires a round hole; the hex body variant requires a hex hole instead. Drilling straight to the nominal value of d will not work: the body outside diameter d carries a minus tolerance (nominal 5 gives 4.90-4.97 mm) while the panel hole d0 carries a plus tolerance (nominal +0.15 mm).

Not with the open end type - the through end is open, which is why the bolt length is not limited and the joint vents better. For water-tight, air-tight or dust-tight joints, specify the closed-end type instead.

We publish minimum values reproduced from GB/T 17880.6-1999. Example - M6 steel flat head: proof load 16,500 N, head push-out 6,149 N, shear 3,800 N, failure torque 15 N.m, rotation torque 4.5 N.m. Two notes: the assembly limit is checked against the lower rotation torque figure (4.5 N.m order of magnitude, not 15 N.m), and Table 7-1 values are for the rivet nut itself, not for the finished joint - panel strength, hole edge distance and sheet thickness also limit the assembly.
