Use 3% foam for standard flammable liquids (e.g., gasoline, diesel) that require basic smothering. Opt for 6% foam for thicker, harder-to-suppress fuels (e.g., heavy oils, industrial solvents) that need a higher concentrate ratio to extinguish effectively.

Foam is less dense than water, so it has lower jet momentum-reducing its range. The tradeoff: foam creates a smothering blanket (critical for flammable liquid fires), while water delivers longer-distance cooling for solid-material fires.
