Q:What is F44 / UNS S31254 stainless steel?

F44 is the ASTM forged-grade name for UNS S31254, also called 1.4547 or 254SMO. It is a 6% molybdenum super-austenitic stainless steel with high chromium, nickel and nitrogen. Its PREN exceeds 42, giving outstanding resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion and chloride stress cracking in seawater and aggressive chemical media. FUSHUN supplies it as round bar, flat bar and strip for marine, desalination and CPI service.
Q:What sizes and conditions does FUSHUN supply?

FUSHUN METAL produces F44 round bar from 6 mm to 500 mm diameter and flat bar 3-60 mm thick, plus strip 0.5-6 mm. Bars are delivered solution-annealed and pickled, or bright turned/peeled on request. Every heat is melted in EAF, refined by AOD/VOD, continuous-cast, hot-rolled and Ultrasonic + PMI inspected under ISO 9001. Cut lengths up to 12 m and custom forgings are available.
Q:How does F44 compare with 316L and duplex stainless?
A:
ersus 316L, F44 offers roughly double the yield strength and far higher chloride resistance; versus duplex grades it gives better toughness and weldability but lower strength. It is the standard choice where PREN above 42 is specified, such as NORSOK M-650 offshore firewater systems and SWRO desalination lines. FUSHUN certifies chemistry and mechanicals to ASTM A182/A479 and EN 1.4547.
