Porcelain tile is dense, impervious, fine grained and smooth with a much lower water absorption rate (<=0.5%) than ceramic tiles, making them frost resistant. Ceramic tiles are softer, easier to cut, have higher water absorption (3%-6%), and are used for both wall and floor applications.
