This slows down the internal heating rate, flattens the temperature peak, and delays the time to reach that peak. This allows heat to dissipate more effectively, reducing the core-to-surface temperature differential that causes cracking.
Q:Is this product just a retarder?
A:
No, it is a comprehensive solution. While it provides necessary retardation for thermal control, it is first and foremost a high-range water reducer. It delivers the low w/c ratio needed for high strength and low permeability, which are also critical for mass concrete durability, while simultaneously managing heat generation.
Q:We are using GGBS/PFA to reduce heat. Is PCE 1036L still beneficial?
A:
Yes, it is highly synergistic. PCE 1036L is specifically designed to work exceptionally well with supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) like GGBS and PFA. It enhances their effectiveness, allowing you to achieve even lower heat profiles and more sustainable mix designs without sacrificing workability or early-age performance.
Q:How do we determine the right dosage for our specific mass concrete pour?
A:
Laboratory testing is essential. We recommend: Trial Batches: Test workability, slump retention, and set time. Adiabatic Calorimetry: This is the most important test. It measures the heat evolution of your specific mix with PCE 1036L under adiabatic (no heat loss) conditions, accurately predicting temperature rise in the field. Thermal Modeling: Use the calorimetry data to model temperature gradients in your actual structure.
Q:What is the typical dosage range for PCE 1036L?
A:
The typical dosage is 0.3% - 2.5% by cementitious weight for liquid form, or 0.32 - 2.67 kg per 100kg of cement. The dosage is critical for thermal performance and should be determined via trial mixes.
