Under normal operating conditions, it is recommended to replace the hydraulic oil filter element every 500 operating hours or every 3 months; in harsh environments (high dust, high temperature), this interval should be reduced to 250 hours. For stationary equipment, the standard practice is every 6-12 months or whenever the oil is changed.

Look for three signs-a differential pressure gauge reading consistently exceeding 0.3 MPa, a humming noise from the pump, or sluggish system operation accompanied by an abnormal rise in oil temperature. If any one of these occurs, the filter element should be inspected.

Select the filtration rating based on the sensitivity of the components being protected. For standard systems, choose 10-20 micron for return-line filters; for precision servo systems, use 3-5 micron; and for coarse filtration at the suction port, use 100-150 micron. Higher precision is not necessarily better.

5 micron filter element provides finer filtration and higher system cleanliness, but the pressure drop rises rapidly as it accumulates contaminants, requiring more frequent replacement; a 10 micron filter element strikes a better balance between filtration efficiency and flow rate, making it a common choice for most standard hydraulic systems.

It depends on the material. Metal sintered filter elements (sintered mesh or sintered felt) can be cleaned and reused; their performance can be restored through ultrasonic cleaning using an approved solvent. Paper or fiber filter elements cannot be cleaned-doing so would damage the structure of the filtration layer-and must be replaced.
