Q:How long does a complete Tan Delta test take?
A:
A typical automatic test takes approximately 40 seconds for a full sequence: the unit automatically ramps up to the set test voltage, takes the measurement, ramps down voltage to zero, and prints or displays the result. Cable diagnostic testing with multiple voltage steps takes longer (9-12 minutes total).
Q:Can Tan Delta testing find the exact location of a defect?
A:
No. Tan Delta tests the entire length between point A and point B and provides an overall assessment of insulation quality. It cannot discriminate between one major defect and many minor defects. For fault location, use reflectometry methods (TDR) after Tan Delta identifies a problem section.
