The transmission device drives the cylinder to rotate. Materials and water are fed from the feeding end. Ores are ground into fine particles by steel rods and self-impact. Continuous feeding compels slurry to move to the discharging end, overflowing when the level exceeds the trunnion edge.

It is mainly used for rough grinding of metal ores like gold, silver, copper, lead, zinc, nickel, manganese, iron, molybdenum, chromium, and tin, as well as non-metallic materials like limestone, barite, quartz, graphite, feldspar, and fluorspar.
