White BOPP is a dense, pore-free synthetic film facestock, so the ribbon ink can only adhere to the surface and cannot penetrate the base material --which makes ribbon selection more critical than on paper. The conclusion: use Wax-Resin for most applications; use Resin when alcohol wiping, solvent resistance, abrasion resistance or long-term durability is required; Wax is not recommended for BOPP production, because its adhesion on a non-absorbent film is insufficient and the print rubs off.

This follows directly from the nature of the label. Wax ribbon formulations are designed for absorbent paper, where the ink anchors by penetrating the fibre. A White BOPP surface is dense and pore-free, offering no fibre structure to penetrate, so adhesion depends entirely on the surface; wax ink has insufficient cohesive and adhesive strength on film and gives the familiar "prints, but does not last" result. It is a materials limitation, not something higher energy will fix.

Yes, if the ribbon is correct. Low-temperature resistance is a strength of BOPP itself--it does not absorb water, soften or delaminate. Ink loss usually comes from insufficient ribbon adhesion, or from condensation on the substrate at the moment of application. For frozen applications use Resin or a high-durability Wax-Resin, and confirm the adhesive is rated for low temperature.

A high barcode grade is achievable with top-coated White BOPP plus a matched Wax-Resin or Resin ribbon and optimised settings. The actual grade depends on printer DPI, printhead wear, speed and energy --your on-site barcode verifier reading is the final measure, and samples can be provided to help validate it.

Top-coated White BOPP is compatible with UV flexo, offset, digital and thermal transfer. If thermal transfer is your main process, say so at the enquiry stage and the facestock coating will be recommended with thermal transfer as the priority.
