Forging transforms a solid from one shape to another and is a plastic forming process in the solid state, including extrusion, drawing, and punching. Casting transforms shapeless liquid metal into a solid with a shape, focusing on the metal melting process. Casting is a solid-liquid-solid process, while forging is a solid-to-solid process where a solid changes shape at high temperatures.

Quality inspection involves external observation and internal inspection. External methods check shape, dimensions, and surface defects like cracks, wrinkles, or pits. Internal testing analyzes chemical composition, macroscopic/microscopic structures, and mechanical properties using specialized instruments to detect fractures, shrinkage, dendrites, and disordered flow lines.

The forging process for circular forgings mainly consists of pier roughening, elongation, punching, and expanding. The difference between free forging and ring rolling lies in the hole expanding process: free forging uses a horse screw, while ring rolling uses rolling to expand the hole.
