High-quality forgings are selected through external observation (checking dimensions, surface defects like cracks or scratches) and internal testing (analyzing chemical composition, mechanical properties, and using specialized instruments to detect internal defects like fractures or shrinkage).

The process includes pier roughening, elongation, punching, and expanding. Free forging uses a horse screw to expand holes, while ring rolling uses rolling. Both methods ensure the metal changes shape at high temperatures.
