Forging transforms a solid shape into another through plastic forming in a solid state, while casting transforms liquid metal into a solid shape by pouring it into a mold. Forging includes processes like extrusion and drawing, whereas casting involves melting and solidification.

High-quality forgings are selected through external observation (checking dimensions, surface defects like cracks or bubbles) and internal testing (analyzing chemical composition, mechanical properties, and using specialized instruments to detect internal fractures or shrinkage).

The process for circular forgings includes pier roughening, elongation, punching, and expanding. Free forging uses a horse screw for expanding holes, while ring rolling uses rolling for this step.

The forgings are made from carbon structural steel like 45# (GB/T699-1999), with equivalents in ASTM, AISI, DIN, and JIS standards. The steel offers high hardness and wear resistance after quenching and tempering.
