Forging transforms solid metal into another shape through plastic deformation, while casting involves pouring molten metal into a mold to solidify. Forging improves mechanical properties by refining grain structure, whereas casting is suitable for complex shapes but may have lower strength.

Select forgings by checking external dimensions, surface defects (cracks, wrinkles), and internal properties via chemical composition analysis, macroscopic/microscopic structure inspection, and mechanical tests like tensile strength and hardness.

The process includes pier roughening, elongation, punching, and expanding. Free forging uses a horse screw for hole expansion, while ring rolling uses rolling mills, offering different efficiency and precision levels.

The crankshafts are made from 45# carbon structural steel (equivalent to S45C, 1045, or SM45), known for good cutting performance, high hardness after quenching, and excellent strength and toughness.
