It is used as a clear outer lamination layer in PVC plastic-card constructions, typically over a printed PVC core.
Q:Is the PVC overlay itself offset or screen printed?
A:
The currently confirmed use is lamination with offset-printed or screen-printed core films. The overlay itself should not automatically be treated as an offset- or screen-printing substrate.
Q:What is the difference between standard and coated PVC overlay?
A:
Standard overlay relies on compatibility between the PVC layers and the lamination process. Coated overlay adds a prepared adhesive interface and may be considered where additional bonding margin is required.
Q:How should overlay thickness be selected?
A:
Calculate it from the complete card stack, including the printed core, opposite-side overlay and any RFID/contactless inlay or other functional layer.
Q:Why can bonding fail over heavily printed areas?
A:
Ink can alter the interface between the overlay and PVC core. Ink chemistry, coverage, curing and lamination conditions should therefore be evaluated together.
