Q:Can we use the same lamination recipe as our PVC card material?
A:
No automatic transfer is recommended. PC has a different thermal and fusion behavior. Establish temperature, pressure, dwell and cooling using the complete PC/core/inlay stack.
Q:Why do cards curl after lamination even when the film thickness is correct?
A:
Curl can result from an unbalanced layer structure, directional dimensional change, uneven heating or uncontrolled cooling. Evaluate both sides of the stack and the complete lamination cycle.
Q:Which grade should we use for laser engraving?
A:
Use a laserable film such as CKC32-J when laser personalization is required. Do not assume CKC32 non-laser overlay will provide the same response.
Q:Can this film be used around an RFID chip and antenna inlay?
A:
Yes, smart-card inlay construction is a target application, but the inlay must be qualified with the selected PC layers. Pay particular attention to local thickness, chip position, antenna geometry and lamination pressure.
Q:How should we choose film thickness for a multilayer smart card?
A:
Work backward from the required finished-card construction. Add the nominal thickness and tolerance contribution of each overlay, printed layer, core and inlay rather than choosing each film independently.
