Q:Why is onyx used for backlit walls?
A:
Onyx forms in cold water caves without the crystalline scatter of marble, so light travels through it. LED sheets behind 16-20 mm panels turn the gold bands into glowing lines.
Q:Is onyx strong enough for floors?
A:
Only in low-traffic residential settings over fully-supported substrates. It is softer and more brittle than granite or quartzite - we advise against commercial floors.
Q:Can I use it as a kitchen countertop?
A:
Not recommended: onyx scratches, etches and can fracture under point loads. As a backsplash, bar front or illuminated wall panel it is spectacular.
Q:How do you prevent breakage in shipping?
A:
Panels travel vertically in custom fumigated A-frames, foam-cushioned and braced; we insure shipments and replace transit damage without argument.
Q:What thickness works best for backlighting?
A:
16-20 mm balances glow against strength. We send test plates at your chosen thickness over your LED spec before production.
