Q:What causes leakage in gate valves and how can it be prevented?

Internal leakage is usually caused by worn sealing surfaces, deformed sealing gaskets, or debris trapped between the sealing faces.
External leakage is often due to aged packing or loose mounting bolts.
Q:Why does a gate valve become stiff or stuck during operation?

Stem rust due to lack of lubrication
Sediment buildup from debris in the medium
Weld slag or foreign matter left in the pipeline during installation
Q:Can a gate valve be used for flow regulation?
A:
No. Gate valves are designed strictly for on/off service fully open or fully closed. Using a gate valve in a partially open position for throttling will cause severe erosion and wear of the sealing surfaces, leading to leakage and premature failure. For flow regulation, please consider globe valves or control valves
Q:What are the operational precautions for gate valves?
A:
Avoid excessive force: Over-tightening the handwheel can damage the stem or gate.
High-temperature applications: After closing a valve under high-temperature conditions, thermal contraction may cause components to seize as they cool. It is advisable to slightly loosen the handwheel after cooling.
