Toluidine Red Rn Pigment Red 3 for Industrial Paint and Coating

Pigment Red 3 is available in two shade variants depending on particle size. Larger particle sizes produce a blueish-red shade, while smaller particle sizes yield a yellowish-red shade. The yellowish-red variant is more commonly used in general applications and shows less "bronzing" (surface haze) in alkyd resins.

PR3 is widely used in industrial paints, air-drying paints, and water-based decorative paints. It offers high tinting strength, excellent opacity, and good acid and alkali resistance. It is particularly valued for its bright, clean red shade and cost-effectiveness. However, it is not recommended for exterior paints, especially in reduced tint forms.

PR3 is suitable for rigid PVC applications. In plastics, it offers good heat resistance and dispersibility. However, it is not recommended for soft PVC due to potential migration issues. It is also used in rubber products and masterbatch production.

PR3 offers light fastness of Grade 6-8 in full shade, but fastness deteriorates rapidly when reduced with white pigments. Heat resistance ranges from 160 to 250 degrees C depending on the specific grade and system. It shows excellent acid and alkali resistance (Grade 5), good water and oil resistance, but limited solvent resistance to esters and ketones.

PR3 is used in offset inks, gravure inks, and water-based inks. It offers good color strength and transparency for packaging gravure applications. However, its use in printing inks is somewhat limited due to moderate solvent resistance. For applications requiring high solvent resistance or exterior durability, high-performance pigments such as PR254 or PR170 may be more suitable.
