EDTA is the international standard anticoagulant for complete blood count (CBC), blood film morphology, and hemoglobin analysis because it: Best preserves cellular morphology of red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. Minimizes platelet clumping. Has minimal effect on most routine hematology parameters. Does not interfere with most molecular diagnostic tests.

K2EDTA (Dipotassium EDTA): Most common, as a spray-dried coating. K3EDTA (Tripotassium EDTA): Usually in liquid form. Both are effective, but K2EDTA is generally preferred as it causes less dilution and is less likely to affect ion measurements.
