Yes. It can work as a generator due to its special working theory. If it runs CW as a motor, it runs CCW as a generator. However, you need to change to a suitable motor controller with AFE function.
Q:Why can't I directly use three-phase AC supply voltage to start this motor?

Because the rotor has high inertia, and the magnetic field spins so fast that the static rotor cannot spin with the magnetic field directly.
