Q:How does a vacuum slow down heat transfer?
A:
By removing most air molecules, we eliminate conduction and convection. Conduction requires molecule-to-molecule heat flow, and convection relies on moving air currents. A vacuum drastically reduces these mechanisms, leaving only radiation as the primary heat transfer mode.
Q:Can vacuum insulation panels be cut on site?
A:
No. The high barrier film must not be damaged. If punctured, air enters and thermal conductivity rises to 0.020 W/mK. Panels cannot be cut or pierced with dowels on site but can be glued or integrated into constructions with appropriate covers.
