Q:How do I determine if my Acme screw jack is truly self-locking?
A:
As a general rule of engineering, an Acme screw jack is considered self-locking if the efficiency of the screw and gear combination is below 30%. Single-start screws with smaller pitches typically guarantee self-locking. However, vibration, dynamic shocks, or the use of multi-start (double-lead) screws can overcome this friction. For critical safety applications, an auxiliary motor brake or safety brake should always be implemented.
Q:What is the difference between a "Translating" and a "Rotating" configuration?

Translating Configuration: The lifting screw moves linearly through the gearbox housing while the internal worm gear rotates. The load is fixed to the top plate or clevis of the moving screw.
